On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2024,
Grand Seiko was back in the spotlight with the experiental
installation MATTER IN MOTION:
Reflections on the balance between nature and human being.
The Grand Seiko Space in the heart of Brera Design District
Located in Casa Brera, the Grand Seiko Space offered visitors the chance to reflect on the existence of nature and human being through a suggestive path.
Nature, the birch forest
The path started inside an immersive indoor forest, where visitors could experience the forest bathing, a Japanese meditation technique that allows people to immerse themselves in nature and reconnect with it.
Along the route, it was also possible to discover six iconic Grand Seiko watches inspired by the white birch forest, indicating the Brand’s deep connection with the natural environment, an expression of its philosophy The Nature of Time.
Human Being, the urban forest
Continuing the visit, visitors accessed the second area where they could immerse themselves in a digital environment that evoked the “urban forest”. Through vertical ledwalls, they were catapulted into a contemporary metropolis whose dynamism symbolizes the transformation of everything.
Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon
As the highest expression of the transformation of matter, made possible by human ingenuity, an authentic piece of design: The Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon. Here visitors could not only admire the two exclusive models of the Kodo collection live, but also delve into the movement.
Grand Seiko is at the forefront of the preservation of the white birch forest located on the Hiraniwa Plateau, with an agreement signed in 2021 with Iwate Prefecture to protect, support and care for what is the largest white birch forest in Japan. With the project Matter in Motion, Grand Seiko is giving continuity to this goal and, in agreement with the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, the brand is committed to donating the birch trees used in the displays to the students of the Academy’s Sculpture and Decoration courses, thus helping to support the expression of their creativity.
